Dedicated Device Guide

A Dedicated Device is important when interacting with bitcoin software. It is also good to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) when connecting to your ripsline Virtual Private Node. Without a VPN, you give up major privacy benefits. Mullvad is beginner friendly.

Dedicated Device

Choose one of the below options as your Dedicated Device.

GrapheneOS Pixel/Pixel Tablet

  1. We envision ripsline running on a GrapheneOS device. The entire stack was built around Graphene devices. It is conveniant that ripsline can be easily run on a computer as well, but we do not forsee people bringing a computer to the store to buy things.
  2. Download GrapheneOS on any Google Pixel device. Tutorial.
  3. After installation, get started here.
  4. The beauty behind GrapheneOS is that you can leave everything as default settings, as long as you verify any application downloaded, you should not have to worry about losing funds.

Linux

  1. If you do not have a Google Pixel/Tablet and are not willing to purchase a new device, most people have an old computer lying around. We encourage users to put linux on it and run ripsline from there.
  2. Here is a tutorial on how to flash linux mint. A very beginner friendly Linux distribution.
  3. Please be sure to download & verify any software downloaded from the internet on this machine.

MacOS

  1. If the old computer you found lying around happens to be a newer MacBook (M series), it is not possible to put linux on it yet.
  2. Newer MacBooks can be configured in a way that minimalizes the invasive software used by Apple. They also offer some security benefits.
  3. Please ensure this machine has a fresh install of MacOS, never signed into iCloud, Location Services, Siri, Apple Intelligence Report, and Apple Analytics are all turned OFF in settings.
⚠️ Important: Always download & verify applications onto your Dedicated Device.
